Coventry City manager Steven Pressley said that he saw some excellent signs during the Sky Blues 2-0 win at Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night.
City fielded eight players who played for City U21's last season as well as Carl Baker and both Leon Clarke and Cyrus Christie who scored City's goals in each half.
"The one thing I must stress is that you don’t get any medals in pre-season, but the signs have been excellent,” said Pressley to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner. .
“We had such a young team with a number of senior players in there and to come here to a very good League Two side and play in the manner that we did gives me a great deal of confidence in the group, and the group should take a great deal of confidence from their performance.
“There were some outstanding performances and, again, Jordan Clarke in amongst young players was outstanding and showed real leadership.
“I said to him before the game that he needs to keep doing that, which he did. I spoke to Billy Daniels several games ago because I think he’s a kid with a wonderful future and he needs to believe in himself more.
"But he has taken on board things I have spoken about being more aggressive in possession of the ball and I thought he was terrific.
“It was nice for big Leon to get another goal with a good finish and Callum Wilson had his best game of the pre-season, so there are a lot of positives.
“It’s a step by step process and we’re not getting too far ahead of ourselves, far from that, but the players are improving with every game and they deserve great credit just now.
“I’d liked to know the average age of the team that finished and it’s great to give opportunities to these kids.
"Ryan Haynes seems to be growing up very quickly and his defending at times was excellent.”
