Sousa: We Sould Have Won

Leicester City left The Ricoh Arena with a point last Saturday, but manager Paulo Sousa felt as if they should have won the game easily.

The Foxes were by far the better side in the first half and went behind against the run of play, to a well worked and finished move late on in the the first half.

Loan signing Danny Ward came in from his right wing to collect the ball then fired a cross pitch pass to the left wing where substitute Michael McIndoe was waiting. He went past a defender and put in an excellent cross which was met by Clive Platt, who's powerful downward header flew into the bottom right corner of the Leicester goal.

Coventry City came out after the break with a bit more passion, but soon resorted to the lacklustre performance of the first half and allowed Leicester to dominate again.

Although Leicester had more of the possession, they couldn't do much with the ball. When they did get into a decent attacking position, ether the Coventry defence dealt with the threat, the shot went wide or was saved by the ever impressive Kieren Westwood in the City goal.

Leicester finally did manage to get on the score sheet, but it was more to do with the failure of the Coventry defence than with a quality Leicester attack. Westwood failed to reach a loose ball and the City defender made a hash of clearing the ball and gave it to Andy King who neatly lobbed a stranded Westwood to score the much deserved equaliser.

Sousa said, "I only remember two shots on our goal in the first half and only one in the second half, but we kept creating. We need to be more clinical in that moment but we continue to create."

"We need to have pride in ourselves. They put everything into winning this game - good spirit, the right attitude, the hunger and desire to win the game, we saw all of that. We did it from the beginning to the end and when we conceded the goal, we kept playing and we kept belief and created more opportunities to score."

"I think the fans today are proud to be Leicester fans because of the way we performed and the way we deserved the win. We have players with the quality to score, we hit the post and at other times there were great saves from their keeper."

"The main thing is too see four or five players around the area, attacking the box in the right places. We were picking up the ball straight away and kept pushing them inside their box. This is what I want to see and of course we want to see more goals but we will get those."
