Southampton are being reported as cooling their interest in Coventry City forward Lukas Jutkiewicz in order to try and land Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp.
Sharp has a clause in his contract which came into operation this morning, saying that anyone who offers over £1.85m can sign him and now Southampton along with Leicester City and Premier League side Fulham managed by former City midfielder Martin Jol are on the chase of the former Sheffield United striker who has scored nine goals this season.
Middlesbrough, who already have had one bid rejected, are now favourites to sign Jutkiewicz.
