Former Coventry City youngster Craig Reid has signed for Southend United.
Coventry born Reid, joined City as a sixteen year old after a spell at Ipswich Town and played for the U18's and Reserves scoring goals aplenty. He did not make any first team appearances and was released by Micky Adams.
Reid then gained Football League experience with Cheltenham Town before a spell at Grays and then Newport County where he was part of Dean Holdsworth's team which won back to back promotions.
Snapped up by Stevenage, the striker helped them into League One before joining Holdsworth again at Aldershot Town, who were relegated from the Football League last season.
The Shots financial problems meant that all of their players were available to find new clubs and Reid has signed a one year deal with the option of another year and various clauses after his Aldershot contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
Reid told Southend's official website; “I’m pleased to have signed a deal with Southend United and I can’t wait to get started. “Last season was tough with everything that went on at Aldershot but I’m very happy to be back in the Football League with Southend and hopefully we can have a successful season. “Hopefully I can score goals and show the fans what I can really do. I can’t wait for the season to get started against Plymouth on Saturday.”
