Injuries will be the main concern for Coventry Sphinx manager Carl Nolan after his side came from behind to draw 1-1 with Heather St John.

Sphinx had efforts from Jack Taylor, Ross Wimbush and Matty Ross but in the 25th minute, they were forced into a change when Tunday Abajade, who had scored in Saturday’s 4-0 victory at Ellesmere Rangers, received a kick and limped off to be replaced by Danny Fraser.

A power cut knocked not only the Sphinx Drive floodlights but the electricity supply to the local area  and in the gloom, Heather won three corners and cleared a Rickie Cutting attack off the line, before taking a 38th minute with a well hit low finish from Jordan Holmes

The power finally came back and Sphinx who had Kyle Rhodes suffer a hamstring injury, came out for the second half on the attack.

Sphinx won three corners and in the 61st minute, they were level thanks to Rickie Cutting broke down the right and beat Peter McGuire with a low drive to the bottom corner.

Two minutes later and visiting keeper Peter McGuire pulled off a stunning one handed save to deny Cutting whose pace had seen him break on goal.

In the 72nd minute, Cutting was involved yet again, this time getting in a superb shot on the turn which was deflected for a corner. Ashley Jackson took the flag kick and Matt Ross got in a low header which hit McGuire’s left hand post.

Ross Wimbush fired over from twenty yards before McGuire denied Cutting again by bravely blocking with his legs.

Sphinx, who lost Ben Atkins to an injury, put the pressure on, winning two late corners but both sides took a point from an evening of plenty of hard work.
