Sphinx Sports & Social came back to win their home Coventry Alliance Division 2 fixture against Highway Coundon Court this afternoon.
In a tight first thirty minutes, Sphinx had Craig Pead limp off after injuring his left knee and went a goal down in the 35th minute when Highway were awarded a corner.
The ball came short and Chris Daffern was beaten on his near post by a shot which squeezed into the net.
Steve Minshull came on for Sphinx in the 51st minute and four minutes later was brought down and a penalty awarded by referee Chris Pemble.
Aidy Fisher who had replaced Pead, stepped up but stroked his penalty wide of the goal occupied by former Sphinx keeper Ashley Hooker who had a fine game catching everything in the air.
Sphinx played some good football and were deservedly level in the 64th minute when Chris Harris got through on the left and the ball came off a defender and low past Hooker and into the net.
Sphinx were camped in the Highway half with Terry Ward again in commanding form and in the 89th minute, Sphinx got their deserved winner when the ball fell for Dean Falconer on the edge of the area and he drilled into the net to give Sphinx who were second in the Cov Alliance Division 2 table going into the game, a 2-1 victory.
