The two biggest non-league sides in Coventry clashed tonight at Sphinx Drive in a first round Coventry Telegraph Cup tie. In front of a large crowd which included Gary McSheffrey and Kevin Thornton, Coventry Sphinx were took the lead in the seventh minute through Craig Martin. Coventry Copsewood who included former Sky Blue Tim Partridge in their side drew level ten minutes later through Stuart Fraser.
Sphinx Take Local Glory
On the stroke of half-time, Sphinx were down to ten men when Carl Winterborne was sent off for deliberate handball on the line. However, Lee Wilson pulled off a good stop to keep the scores level at the break.
With many players on display having worn the shirts of both clubs, things were always going to be tight, but in the 74th minute, Sphinx went back in front when substitute Wayne Pulford finished from ten yards with his first touch. Pulford scored again four minutes later when he finished off a knock back from Chris Harris. Danny O'Toole pulled on back for Scott Furlong's side with nine minutes remaining.
