Tottenham Hotspur look likely to end their long term interest in Coventry City's star man, goal keeper Keiren Westwood.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is poised to sign Portsmouth and England goalie David James on a free transfer as an alternative to Gomez. With the signing of James, Spurs would no longer have an interest in the 'keeper they tried to prise away from Coventry late on in the January transfer window.

The news will be welcomed by City fans, but it is thought that Sunderland might still have an interest in the Irish international goal keeper.

Last month another of Westwood suitors, Everton, signed a new goal keeper, thereby ending their pursuit of City's prized asset and on Monday Birmingham City look to be signing Ben Foster from Manchester United for £4m.
