Steve Staunton faces being without a club for the start of the season as Walsall seem reluctant to sign the former Irish international.
Having decided that he did not want to play for Coventry City by failing to turn up for the opening day of training and then not even bothering to call Micky Adams to offer an explanation, the contract offered to Staunton was withdrawn.
Staunton had hopes of joining Walsall but Saddlers boss Paul Merson would have to sell two players in order to pay his wages and the chances of him playing at the Bescot now seem slim.
