Micky Adams would like John to be part of the City squad which travels to Queens Park Rangers on Monday night.
He commented: "Ideally we would like Stern back but because we have a game on Monday, I don't see any real problems.
"I have not seen Stern for three months and so I don't know what shape he is in. "I will look at him in training on Sunday and decide, but I think he will be in the squad for QPR."
