Holdsworth said: “My contract with Bolton is up at the end of the season and I’m looking to extend my career beyond that.
"Being at Coventry will provide me with an opportunity for regular first-team football, which will keep me in the shop window. I’m there for a month and we’ll see how things are after that.
“Sam and myself sat down earlier today and had a discussion, and we both agreed that this move was the best option for me. It will also allow me to spend more time with my family.
“I can only hope my time at Highfield Road is half as good as it has been at the Reebok with the fans and the players, and I wish everybody well for the month I’m away.
“I’m looking forward to teaming up with Gary McAllister and the players and helping them to push for a return to the top-flight.”
