Coventry City Ladies rained on Villa's parade with a stunning 4-1 victory at Aston Villa.

There was a good crowd at Villa Park on a wet Tuesday night for this WPL National Division fixture and those who made it through the M6 traffic saw Clough and Sweetman-Kirk have efforts on goal.

Villa countered with a corner and then took the lead in the 13th minute when the said flag kick was not cleared and Emma Folles was left free to score with a 25 yard daisycutter.

The response from Chris Holloway's side was immediate as Karen Clough broke in the 15th minute and slipped the ball past Megan Walsh to draw the Sky Blues level.

The robust City defence dealt with two corners and the problems caused by tricky winger Kelly Clarke before both Sweetman-Kirk and Dermody went wide with long range efforts.

The second half started in torrential rain, with City knowing that a win would lift them above Villa for whom this was their final game of the season.

Holloway sent on Nat Reay for Jade Formaston in the 59th minute and within four minutes, Reay had City in front when she smashed high into the net after Clough had nodded a Sweetman-Kirk cross into her path.

Villa had Folles stretchered off and won two corners, the second of which saw a great diving save by Sue Wood.

City attacked again with Walsh just grabbing a free kick and in the 74th minute, they won a corner. In came the kick and up rose Kim Walton to powerfully head home and put City 3-1 up.

Subsitute Maz Gauntlett came on and had a 25 yard free kick finger-tipped over the bar by Walsh. Then two minutes into stoppage time, Gauntlett confirmed her return with a stunning free kick to give City a 4-1 win.
