Jay McDonald, a Committee Member of the Coventry City London Supporters Club is taking part in an Endurance Running Challenge which takes place this weekend along the entire length of the Grand Union Canal between Birmingham and Little Venice – a distance of 145 Miles. Jay is clearly getting himself in trim for next season’s matches (with endurance being the major factor for most of us he is on the right lines) I think he will be not too far from Sixfields at one stage so he might nip in and get some sponsorship from the Club Owners!
What
It’s the 145 mile (233km) non-stop Grand Union Canal Race (GUCR) – The equivalent of 5 and a half marathons.
Where
From Gas Street Basin in Birmingham to Little Venice in London (the entire length of the Grand Union Canal)
When
Starts at 06.00am on Saturday 24 May 2014 in Birmingham
Why
I have never run this far before, I enjoy challenging myself by running long distances and it is one of the longest ultras in the UK. More importantly though, I am trying to raise money for the Leukaemia and Blood Disease Research Appeal based at the University College London Hospital Haematology Department.
Every donation helps so please feel free to support the charity by visiting my fundraising page. http://www.sponsorme.co.uk/jaymacdonald/gucr-2014.aspx
You can also read more about my build up to the race on my blog which I will update with a pre-race report later this week and a blow by blow post-race report (whatever the outcome) next week!
