The midfielder would have been out of contract at City in June and was not going to sign a deal with City when Reading came in and signed him in January for a fee of around £300,000.
Tabb, who wears the number 37 shirt for Reading, has only had one start for the Royals and two substitute appearances and is hoping to play after coming through a reserve game against Lewes in midweek.
"Coventry is still the first result I look out for," said Tabb to the CT. "My best friend is Ben Turner so I speak to him all the time and I still keep in touch with quite a few of the lads.
"I had a great relationship with the fans when I was there and I like to think I might get nice applause rather than any boos.
"It is the first time I have ever been back to an old club as a player, so that will be a new experience for me."
Also speaking to the CT, City manager Chris Coleman said:"I am sure Jay will get a good reception because he was a good servant to Coventry.
"He had a good time here and the supporters respected him for the way he approached his game and departed on good terms. He was a manager's joy."
