The players they believe will be making their way to the Arena are former Evertonian Alan Stubbs, ex Nottingham Forest striker David Johnson and Northern Irish international Michael Hughes.
Former Leicester City player Peter Canero has also been linked with the Sky Bluers. Signed by Micky Adams during his time at the other end of the M69 in January 2004 for £250,000 from Kilmarnock, right sided Canero made only eight appearances before falling to injury and fitness problems.
He turned out for Leicester in their 2-1 defeat by Inter Milan on Monday but had his contract cancelled by mutual agreement on Thursday by Foxes boss Craig Levine.
