Carl Baker has said that Coventry City's 3-2 extra time victory over Birmingham City at the Ricoh Arena on Tuesday night was for the supporters who have stuck by the club and gave the team some excellent backing.

Speaking to club journalist Keiran Crowley, Baker, who was man of the match and scored the winning goal six minutes into the first period of extra time, said:  “That win is a welcome relief for all of us really. We went home really unhappy after the game on Saturday as it was a poor performance.

“We had to respond to that and I feel we have today. We did ourselves proud and we have performed tonight the way we can perform.

“Shawsy (Richard Shaw) sent us out there wanting us to give it everything and we responded to that. I think the lads showed a great attitude. We love Shawsy and Carso (Lee Carsley) and I think the workrate showed that.

“It is a great testament to Shawsy that lads can go out there and perform the way we did as it shows the lads really like him. I think we can use this win to push on from now.

“I suppose it is my best performance. The thing is you don’t really remember it because you are involved in it of course.

“I felt really fit today. I expected to hit a bit of a brick wall when we went into extra time but I was fine and kept going.

“A lot of players were getting really tired at that point and I really enjoyed it today. We knew it was going to be a tough game but it is just pleasing that everyone played brilliantly.

“The performance was for the fans, for them sticking with us. Hopefully we can continue that.”
