The Midland Football League was officially born on Wednesday night at Cadbury's Sports And Social club in Birmingham.
Coventry Sphinx attended the last ever Midland Football Alliance AGM which was held at the same time as the likes of Coventry Copsewood, Alvis Sporting, Atherstone Town, Southam United, Racing Club Warwick, Nuneaton Griff, Kenilworth Town, Coventry United, Austrey Rangers, FC Stratford and Leamington Hibernian were attending the last ever Midland Football Combination AGM.
Those attending the Midland Football Alliance AGM heard that the formation of the new Midland Football League had been three years in the making with progress over the first eighteen months "bitty" but over the last eighteen months, the progress had been remarkable.
The Midland Football Alliance had been in existance for twenty years, starting with twenty teams and 38 clubs had been members with a number going on to progress high up the pyramid including Leamington FC.
The decision to end the Midland Alliance and join the Midland Football League was put to the club and proposed by Boldmere St Michaels and seconded by Continental Star and was unanimously voted through.
The clubs, League officials and representatives from the Midland Football Alliance, then joined those from the Midland Combination whose Chairman was Coventry non-league stalwart Pete Scanlon.
Those present at the first ever meeting of the Midland Football League Ltd voted in the new clubs of Basford United, Long Eaton United, Lye Town, Hinckley AFC, Uttoxeter Town, Boldmere Sports & Social, Redditch Borough and Smithswood Firs as well as those who enter the U21 and Reserve League.
The clubs were approved as was the new committee which will see Coventry Sphinx's Jackie McGowan, Pete Scanlon of Coventry Copsewood and Peter Kemp of Nuneaton Griff as club representatives.
