Coventry City manager Steven Pressley feels that tomorrow's game at Port Vale is a vital game.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole, Pressley said: “Looking at where we are and where they are in the league table this is a vital game and I believe we have to go there to win.
“In general terms I was pleased with the way we played at Bristol City – if you look at where we were when we played them at home in the league Wednesday’s performance showed we’ve made strides in the right direction.
“But football’s about winning games and we need a result, not just a performance.
“People talk about ‘you can put a sustained run together’ but the evidence isn’t there just now. And I’m looking solely at the next game – it’s an old cliché but so true.
“Port Vale they’ve changed their style of play recently – they put a greater emphasis on passing through the departments of the team, they play with a lone striker and, a little bit like Bristol, they score a high percentage of their goals from crosses.
“They’re on a very good run of form at home so it’s a real test for us but it’s a really big pitch – again, similar to Bristol – and i think that’s suited to the way we play.
“There was a period of time when we were losing two goals a game and having to score three to win. We had to address that situation and I think we’ve looked a more solid outfit – although we lost two goals against Bristol the chances they created were minimal.
“But it’s all about balance and one of the areas we need to improve is obviously scoring goals – we have to have a far greater contribution from the attacking midfield players.
“We’ve worked hard on that but we need to see the proof out there on the field of play. If we get that I think we can be a good outfit.”
