One of the more surprising transfer deals done on the last day of the January transfer window was the move to Liverpool from Coventry City of the 17 year old midfielder Conor Thomas.
Thomas had not played a single whole game for Coventry, was a substitute against Crystal Palace and he started the FA Cup fourth round tie at Birmingham last week, but was substituted in the second half.
Thomas was one of City's brightest young talent to have gone trough the academy in years and his manager Aidy Boothroyd had high hopes for a player with what he called an exceptional talent.
The Coventry born, Coundon Court School educated Thomas ad also been attracting the attention of Liverpool's scouts who had been keeping a watchful eye on the progress of the under 17 England international.
It now appears that the decision to let Thomas leave Coventry City was a boardroom decision, but the details of the deal have not been made public.
What has emerged is that Liverpool had been monitoring Thomas for over twelve months and have taken the teenager on loan from Coventry City, to their academy in Kikrby where he will train and play with Liverpool's reserves, where, it is hoped, his undoubted talent will be harnessed.
The deal with Liverpool, subject to Thomas passing his medical, will see Coventry City receive, what could prove to be significant payments based on club appearances and international caps and a sell on clause.
