Rumours abound that Coventry City are interested in taking former England international Alan Smith on loan.
The 31 year who is a former BMX British Champion, has played for Leeds United, Manchester United and Newcastle United.
Smith was told last May that he was surplus to requirements by Alan Pardew who knows City boss Andy Thorn from his playing days but has made one substitute appearance for the Magpies this season.
Newcastle are expected to pay the majority of his wages if a deal can be done to bring the experienced midfielder to the Ricoh Arena.
