Coventry City coach Steve Harrison feels the club are right to stick with Andy Thorn as manager.
Speaking to the CT’s Andy Turner, Harrison said: “The board have been very patient and hopefully they will see the rewards at the end of the season.
“I know from experience that as a manager you feel it 75 per cent more than anyone else – more than the coaches and more than the players because every time you concede the crowd always look to you.
“Big Andy has done very well and I like to think I have helped him. We ring each other on a Sunday and of course he has a grass burn on his chin every now and then but he’s only young and he’ll learn how to handle that.
“I tell him to take himself out of it and look at games objectively. Ask yourself ‘did we play well today and did we create chances? Yes. Are there things to work on defensively? Yes. Can we do it? Yes.’
“I’m sure the experience will hold him in good stead because he’s a strong lad. He was a good player – far better than I was – and very forthright, a talker and an organiser.
“He’s a London boy who went to Newcastle to play and that takes some doing – just as it does for a northern lad to play in London – because it’s a whole new culture, so he’s got strength of character and he’s showing that now.
“He’s had to over the months because of the circumstances. It’s hard when you see your best players go but that’s the situation and I’ve told him to only worry about what he can affect. He can’t affect that, he’s got to work with these boys, get on with it and bring them on.
“Bertie Mee told me many years ago at Watford that you have got to handle success on an even keel and handle disappointment the same way. If you treat them both the same you’ve got a chance.”
