Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has slammed his side after their humiliating 3-1 defeat in the first round of the Carling Cup last night.
It was the third season in a row that Coventry have gone out at the first round stage of the competition to lower league opposition and the manner of the defeat was unacceptable to Thorn.
The City boss slammed his players after having selecting his strongest available side for the match. He could not call on the services of his captain Sammy Clingan as he is on international duty with Northern Ireland, nor could he select Carl Baker who is serving a three match ban for his red card on Saturday.
Coventry did take the lead though a Roy O'Donovan strike, but the lead lasted just six minutes and the sides wernt into the break level, but in the second half were, in Thorn's own words,"rubbish".
Thorn said to the CT: "By a country mile that is the worst performance I have witnessed under me. It's not what we are about and it was unacceptable."
"We looked okay in the first half but whether we thought we just needed to turn up or not I don't know. Second half we just didn't come out and we were rubbish."
"It was not just a case of individual players. On a whole we were poor. We have a big game at the weekend and some of the players are going to have to take a good look at themselves before that because that performance is just not the way we play."
