He said: "After he told me the news I asked Peter if he wanted me to go with him and he said no. He told me to stay here, try to win the Crewe game and see what happens from there.
"I also briefly spoke to the Chairman and he said he’d like me to stay on so we’ll see how it goes. At the moment I’m just looking at the Crewe game which is a massive one for everybody at the club.
"The players have got to come up with a performance which I certainly think they owe their manager and if we win the tie we’ll probably have a bit more time to sit down and see what happens next.
"I think the supporters have got to get behind the players now because the football club is more important than any individual and they need to get a result on Saturday to stay in the FA Cup because the revenue that brings will help us.'
Heath admitted he was surprised by Reid's decision saying: 'I’d spoken to Peter three or four times since the last home game and there was no mention of it,' he said. 'This morning we came in and prepared as usual and he pulled me aside after training and told me so it certainly came as a shock.
"I know how proud a man he is and he doesn't quit things very easily. We've been friends for twenty years now and it is never nice to see somebody whose close to you get in a hole where he has to pack in. "The players were all leaving training when Peter told me so I'll have a chat with them tomorrow and we'll go from there. But football goes on and we have got to prepare for Saturday's game. "
