Coventry City Development Officer Steve Waggott has said that it is time to inject some postivity into the club and that there is a chance that the Sky Blues could eventually own the Ricoh Arena.
Mr Waggott told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole after lawyers agreed a two year deal to bring the Sky Blues back to the Ricoh Arena from exile in Northampton: “We used to have the Ricoh for 23-25 days a year and we need the other 340 to bring in another few million, 60-per-cent of which will go to Steven Pressley to build up his squad.
“There’s one product in football and that’s the team. We need them to win, move up the leagues and bring success for the fans.
“My dream is for Coventry City to play in their own stadium, however that’s achieved, and I’m willing to have discussions with anybody to secure the future of this club.
“People think we’re posturing about building a new stadium but if that’s the only way forward that’s what we do.
“But The Ricoh was designed and built for the football club. I know there’s a lot of other things going on there but people call it the football ground, don’t they?.
“I will be holding regular meetings with Chris Robinson and the council who are the ultimate decision makers and might just say ‘this is absolutely stupid; why don’t we move it across and let them drive the stadium on commercially?
“I know that the Sisu brand is not flavour of the month with the fans but we’ve got to put that behind us. It’s time to inject some realism and some positivity into this club, take the opportunity to move on for the sake of the fans who have been starved of success for years.”
