Defenders Ben Turner and James McPake made some excellent tackles and blocks to keep the Saddlers at bay before Freddy Eastwood fired home in the 60th minute and Shaun Jeffers had the final touch of a Jordan Clarke header with the last kick of the game to record a 2-0 victory for the Sky Blues.
Speaking to Andy Turner, who was working for the Sunday Mercury, the City boss said: "There was a little bit too much last-ditch defending for my liking.
"The two front guys, Darren Byfield and Troy Deeney, gave us a really tough time but we managed to overcome that and keep a clean sheet, and we had a goal disallowed and hit the crossbar.
"But it was a very even game and one of those games that you want because we threw a few punches and got a few thrown back at us."
