The Coventry City Former Players Association’s ‘special guest’ for the Sky Blues’ League One home game tonight against Bradford City will be one of the stars of the Club’s F.A.Cup victory a quarter of a century ago, Trevor Peake.
‘Peakey’ played for King Edward VI School Nuneaton graduating to his local team Nuneaton Borough in 1978, before joining professional club Lincoln City the following year. The Sky Blues signed him in 1983 and he became an indispensible and cultured part of the defence in well over 300 appearances before moving to Luton Town from 1991-98. Trevor is rated by many as one of the best half backs of his era not to have been capped for his country and was a crucial part of the Sky Blues 1986-87 F.A.Cup run that culminated in that pulsating 3-2 extra time victory over Spurs in the Wembley Final in May 1987.
Trevor frequently turns out for the former players in Charity games and memorably played his full part in the 25th Anniversary celebrations in 2012 of that wonderful year for the Club and City.
Trevor has coaching experience with both Luton and the Sky Blues (and was chief scout and even briefly our caretaker Manager with fellow CCFPA member Steve Ogrizovic in 2002) but his current coaching duties as Assistant Academy Director with Leicester City (in charge of their U18s) mean he cannot visit the Ricoh as much as he might like. He was last our special guest in November 2012 so it is a pleasure to have him as our guest once more tonight.
