Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has heaped praise on his defender Ben Turner after his display against Derby on Saturday.

On his 22nd birthday Turner came to the rescue of his goalkeeper Kieren Westwood, when he was caught out of position and then went onto score the winning goal, his first ever league goal for the club.

A typically modest Turner (pictured below) said of his goal and the goal line clearance which prevented his side from conceding a goal, "It was a fantastic ball in from Lee Carsley which just dipped on to my head at the last minute, and I managed to head it into the corner. As for the clearance, Westie's saved me enough times, so I'm glad I could pay him one back."

Boothroyd didn't spare the modest Turner's blushes and heaped praise on the local lad, he said to the CT, "It was a goal that deserved to win a match, wonderful ball in from Lee Carsley and a terrific header by Ben."

"I'm so pleased for him because sometimes young players like him can falter, go missing and drop out of league football, but I still think there's a lot of development in Ben. With the talent he's got and the physical presence he's got, he's a guy that can go on and become very, very big in the game."

"He's got the size, the ability in the air and he's tidy with his feet as well. He's got a lovely drive and he can pass. All he needs now is a bit of self belief. He needs to start bullying some of the others, because I'd do what he said!"
