Turner, who has been at Coventry since he was ten, told the CT: "It is really unfortunate for Scott to get injured and I hope he is all right, but it was nice to get back on the pitch for the first team because it has been a while.
"Scott has been in the team ahead of me and I like him a lot as a person and a player. "We are good mates and I want to see him fit and playing so we can have a scrap for places in the team.
"It is going to be difficult for me because he is captain and a terrific player but if he is not fit then hopefully I can get my chance and show what I can do.
"I had a great run in the side last season and I have had to be patient. "But I am happy enough because the gaffer is straight with me and I am straight with him, and he knows that I am professional.
"I keep my head down and live my life the right way and then when I get my chance hopefully I can be as bang on close to being match fit and sharp without having that match practice.
"It is nice to be able to show the manager what I can do. "He has shown a lot of faith in me and says that from what he has seen in training he hopes that I can be part of the longer term plans at the club.
"So hopefully, although he hasn't seen me too much in the league, he has seen me in the Cup and for a half against Reading, and every day in training he gets to know what I am like as a player and a person, and hopefully that is enough to keep me at the club and ensure I have a good future at Coventry.
"My contract is up in the summer so I am playing for a new deal really. That's what I aim to do anyway and hopefully all the signs are good from the manager and hopefully I can get that sorted out because I love being at the club. "I have been at Coventry since I was 10 years old and if I can get a new contract that would be ideal.
"I have got to get myself right for Saturday now in case I am called upon and do my thing and take it from there.
"Obviously I want Scott to be fit but if he is not and the manager wants me to play I will be ready."
