Coventry City Ladies booked their place in the Second Round of the WPL League Cup with a 100% record after beating Derrby County

After three wins in Group 3, City with Scott Riddell taking the team following the resignation of Paul Cudby, needing only a point to finish top of the group, put in a lot of hard work went into making sure the match kicked off on a rainy day at Bedworth United.

In the seventh minute, Helen Dermody made the most of a through ball from Nicola Dale and slipped the ball past former City keeper Sarah Morgan.

Three minutes later, Dermody was through again but flashed wide under pressure from Lorna Abbey. Dermody received treatment and was able to return to the action after five minutes.

Danni Saulter went on a good run and fired across the goal in the 16th minute and three minutes later sent a left footed drive onto the roof of the bar from 25 yards out.

Dermody went down again and this time, her shoulder injury was enough to force her off and Cheryl Edwards came on as a City won two corner.
In the 25th minute, Simpkins sent a right footed curler from twenty yards which Morgan brilliantly pushed over for a third corner that led to a fourth.

Both sides won corners before City went further ahead in the 37th minute when Sweetman-Kirk attacked down the right and whipped in a ball which Emily Simpkins controlled with her backside before slotting past Morgan's left hand side.

In the 43rd minute, Nicole Dale skipped past a defender and crossed just missing Sweetman-Kirk but winning a corner.

The second half was a lot tighter than the first but City kept going and in the 57th minute, Saulter got down the right and thumped the cross bar.

In the 64th minute, Morgan made another brilliant one handed save pushing over a Dale shot after good work by Edwards.

Six minutes later, Derby, who relied on the offside trap to stop City, had Paige Crossman fire straight at Wood from range.

Crossman fired wide in the 78th minute and Derby won a corner two minutes later.

Sweetman-Kirk fired wide and Morgan pushed a shot away to her right from Dale as City booked their place in the second round on December 9th.
