Venus: We Did Everything Wrong

Last updated : 19 November 2016 By CNS Sport

Coventry City Interim Manager and Otium Director Mark Venus said that City did everything wrong as the Sky Blues went down to a 4-1 defeat at Oxford United.

Venus said:  “I can put my finger on it and have an opinion on it. "Bottom line, they had more intensity than us, they closed us down and we didn’t know how to stop them closing us down.

"They put us under pressure and we couldn’t handle the big long ball to the centre forward.

"Put them all together and you have got trouble.

“But listen, we did everything wrong.”

I think you have to worry because I think they are a bit young and I think you always have to worry about every game.

“Listen, we’re down the bottom of the league and after 17/18 games it’s not a fluke.

“I told them they have experienced winning in the league since I have come here and now they have experienced a defeat.

"They are not a team who can win five on the trot.

"I don’t make it up and they can lose as many as they win.

“The bottom line is they have to try to keep getting better and keep adapting to the league.

"They are not ready for the league, they can’t handle the league and certain aspects of the league.

"They know it and I know it.

“I thought we were beaten by a better team in all departments today.

"Everything they did they did with more purpose and meaning about it.”

"I think we need players in January, I think the team needs a hand and we need some more men in the football club.

“I think it was evident today that we’re not going to win every week by playing young boys.

"I think they were brushed aside too easily today.”
