The former West Ham man had twenty minutes against Preston North End on Saturday and played for the Reserves in their 7-1 mauling at a very strong Aston Villa side on Monday dinner-time.
"I got a run out at Preston when it was unfortunate that after being 1-0 up, we ended up conceding three," said Ward to the CT.
"But it was nice to get on and get the legs going a bit in a proper game. I played on Monday and that was my first 90 minutes since the last game of the season against Ipswich so I think I am fit to start a game now what I have got a reserve game under my belt.
"I am not expecting a start but you are always hopeful. I will just work hard in training and see what happens."
