The rain which started yesterday afternoon, prevented any play before lunch and another inspection ended any hopes of play for today.
The teams will try again tomorrow with Essex on 90-7.
In the Test Match at Lords, rain also affected play. England were 39-1 with Jon Trott on eight not out when the rain came down and play was abandoned for the day.
