We Are Trying To Be Open - Fisher

Coventry City CEO Tim Fisher has said that the club are trying to be open with supporters.

Writing in reply to a letter in the Coventry Telegraph, Mr Fisher wrote;
"Firstly, we have recognised that mistakes were made this time last year and certainly understand that there were several factors in the club’s relegation to League One.

But relegation happened and we cannot shy away from it. We have to move forward as we have two huge tasks directly in front of us.

The first and foremost is to get the club on a sustainable financial footing. It is absolutely key to the future of Coventry City that this happens and we should not be censured for being very open about our predicament.

 Secondly, we want our place back in the Championship and we are working with Andy Thorn and his team at Ryton to put together a squad that gives us the best possible chance to achieve that aim.

Really tough decisions have been made and they are not decisions any of us relish but the recent publication of the accounts to the year ending May 2011 highlighted that we have to address the fact that the club has been losing money for years – decades, in fact.

I hope supporters don’t view the fact that we are trying to be open about the challenges as an insult, in fact, we completely understand that this is your club and we are doing everything possible to build a brighter future.

Just on a point of fact, on match day costs: Almost every match day ticket price has either stayed the same or has been reduced this season.

I understand the depth of feeling but we are trying to learn from mistakes of the past as we want this club to be great again for the good of the people of this city and its fantastic supporters."

Tim Fisher,

Chief executive of Coventry City.
