Brighton & Hove Albion boss Gus Poyet felt that his side were average in the 2-0 defeat to Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena this afternoon.
Speaking to the Press Association, Poyet said: "It was average and for us to win games we need to be better than that. We need to be better than just okay.
"We passed the ball okay, we created one great chance but that is not enough.
"I am not going to make excuses because when you have injuries and suspensions you need to be better. You cannot have three, four or five players not at their best.
"Yes we want to get our players back and we'd like to bring some in, blah, blah, blah, but we have to get the basics right.
"If you are still in the game for an hour, whoever scores the first goal will probably win the game. We should have stopped the first goal and we had a very good chance to equalise straight away and if we had taken that, the game would go back to normal."
