Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that recruitment for next season needs to be got right.
“Recruitment is important for us, we have to try to get that right,” said Mowbray to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner.
“It’s not easy with no money to recruit. We will, ultimately, end up filling our club up with loans again because that’s what we have to do.
“We have some pretty big clubs potentially wanting to help us next year – they would like us to have some of their young players because they have been happy with what we have done this year and can see an opportunity for some of their starlets to come and try to make an impact.
“I think they see Coventry as a big club in a league where they should play as opposed to going to the Championship where the players and their agents might think it’s the next step and yet, because they are only 18 they are not trusted, they are put on the bench and don’t play much football and there’s no real development.
“I sit here almost excited to see the next crop of exciting young players but, then again, are we going to fall down the same hole?
“Are we going to get to Christmas/New Year and they’ve never played 25/30 games and it’s really hard and when the slog comes and you have to really dig deep they find it hard to find the extra reserves because they feel washed out after 30 games?
“So I don’t want to fall down the same trap and that’s why I hope that the likes of Vladimir Gadzhev uses his experience and gets in the team and used to the speed of the game.
“I’ll be starting to talk to the more experienced players and see what their thoughts are for next year.
“Obviously a few of them are out of contract and we’ll try to put a team together really that can compete again. But we obviously need to be able to sustain it and I think getting the balance of experience and youth is something we have to really focus on.”
