Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has said that the club must retain players if they are to have any chance of making the play-offs next season.
Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “As I have stated we are not a club who can buy our way to success at this moment in time.
"That’s just not going to happen so our model is going to be a slightly more patient one that sees the development of our players coming through the system here.
"And the likelihood is next season that of our 22 man squad, 50 per cent will be developed from our Academy.
“Without doubt the secret to achieving success over a period is retaining your best players and that’s why we have to ensure throughout the course of the summer that we keep hold of Callum Wilson and all our young players like John Fleck and Conor Thomas who have excelled this year.
“We have to retain them and build from them. It takes time and in football, especially as a manager, you don’t always get time.
"The balance you have to strike is hitting short term goals that allow us to develop our long-term objectives, because you never get to the long term of you don’t hit short-term targets.”
