Speaking to the CT,Wardy said: "We didn't finish very well at the end of last season so this year we just need a steady start, not to peak too early, and be consistent throughout the season and hopefully if we can do that we can do well and start challenging in those top six places.
"I've been happy with myself over the summer, after the op, in keeping my weight down and I've kept myself at the same weight all through the break.
"It's been the best thing for me and now I'm not in bad shape. I've been working hard along with the rest of the lads but that's what pre-season in all about."
