Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray said that his side showed a lot of character during their 2-1 win at Burton Albion.
Speaking to Geoff Foster of BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, Mowbray said: “We showed a lot of character and that’s the big positive to take from the game.
“With the squad as depleted as it was with injuries and international callups, we were without three players from the team that won the first three matches and we are digging deep at the moment so it’s great to come here and get a result.
"There are still certain areas that we need to strengthen but the warriors you need were there in abundance.
"Until the last fifteen minutes of the first half we did not get any fluency.
"We had some discussions with Marcus and we have cut down with his running but it was not a fluency day and was a day where we had to dig in.
"The Sky people have told me that the goal was good and are praising the officials.
"We dug the game out today in a place that’s proven to be really hard for anybody to come to. There will be times when we don’t play as well as I want us to but we have to try to win those games.
“Second place in the table doesn’t mean anything at this stage – it’s when you get after the New Year that you start to think about where you are in the league table.
“But hopefully we’ll keep on picking up points and this puts the result against Southend into context. For me a draw at home is acceptable if you go away and win – and if you can continue to pick up two points a game for a long period of time you won’t be too far away.”
