Speaking to Sky Blue Player after the game, Boothroyd said: "I think we have proved today that we can be a very good team. I think Bristol City are a good team and to go away from home and get a win is a big step for us. We are getting better all the time.
"It is going to take a bit of time because there have been eight managers in nine years and this is a club that has been out of the top division for a long time.
"I just felt today we did a lot of things we have talked about and I thought we were well worth the win.
"There were a couple of penalty appeals - I counted four - but I'm just a little bit biased but we got on with it.
"When you come to places like this you have to be able to defend and I always thought we had a chance. I thought we made really good decisions.
"I think we will start firing on all cylinders when we go into the New Year. In the meantime we have to make sure we keep pace in a very competitive league."
