Keiren Westwood collected his seventh Republic Of Ireland cap when he played in the 3-2 defeat by Uruguay tonight in Dublin.

A crowd of 25,611 at the Aviva Stadium saw the Coventry City keeper beaten in the 12th minute when a Diego Forlan free kick fell to the unmarked Lugano, who swivled from eight yards to score.

Ireland levelled after fourteen and a half minutes when Shane Long headed home a move he had started, by playing the ball to Paul Green who played it wide for Lawrence to supply the cross.

Uruguay were back in front in the 22nd minute when Maxi Peieira ran across the area and picked out Cabani to fire past Westwood.

There was little Westwood could do and there was not he could in the 39th minute when Ireland lost the ball in midifeld. It was fed out to Hernandez and he slipped the ball past Westwood as he came out.

Ireland pulled a goal back, two minutes in the second half through a Keith Fahey penalty and Westwood, did his chances of more caps no harm, when he made two good stops in the 70th minute but Uruguay held on to win.
