Westwood: We Need To Eradicate Mistakes

Coventry City goalkeeper Kieren Westwood has spoken about the need to eradicate the defensive mistakes that have led to conceding too many goals this season.

"We can't keep giving away goals from needless corners, free headers and what not," said the Irish international goalkeeper to the CT.

"I thought there was a foul on Richard Wood for their first goal because their lad had his arm over the top of him, but he has got his head on it and we didn't manage to clear it and the second one was a great finish but Iain Hume maybe shouldn't have got there."

"Their style was to throw bodies in the box and try to box me in so I couldn't come and catch it, but you just have to try to deal with it, which we did in the main but obviously they managed to score from a corner which is not ideal."

Westwood reflected on the the missed chances his own side had ,"We hit the post, had one cleared off the line and the keeper made a couple of saves so it just wouldn't go in for us and hopefully over the course of the season the luck will turn for us."

With City 1-2 down with seconds left on the clock, Westwood went forward when his side won a corner, but complained he was fouled when he tried to head the ball.

He claimed: "I was in the air and one of their lads just gave me a little nudge and twisted me so the ball hit me on the side of the head instead of the forehead, so had I not had that nudge I think I would have scored."

"We have got two big games now starting with Donny and then Hull away when we have got to stop giving away crappy goal because they are costing us games. We definitely should have won on Saturday."
