Coventry City Academy Boss Richard Stevens has told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner that that City's Academy is built on a foundation of a feeling where one succeeds, everyone succeeds.
The list of players who have come out of City's Academy into the first team grows every season and the likes of Ivor Lawton, George Thomas, Cian Harries, James Maddison and Jack Finch are ready to come into the first team squad for next season.
Stevens said: “Despite the issues away from the football side of things, the first-team manager has shown he will play young players if they show they can cope with the standards, and I think it’s important players see that,” said Stevens.
“There are some unbelievable academies in the area but to complete the cycle there has to be an outlet at the end for them.
"When you are fighting for promotion in the Championship or in the Premier League the stakes are so great that it’s difficult to get kids in.
“Where we are right now we have to rely on these young boys and you get a freshness from them. When they pull the shirt on they play without fear because they’re mainly Coventry boys who have been at the club for ten, 11 or 12 years for some of them, and I think it means more to them.
“You get a real energy from them because it’s their club. And even if it’s not the club they support, it’s theirs because they have been here a long time. And we do create that family atmosphere and feeling that when one succeeds, everyone succeeds.”
