Wigan Athletic gained ground on Coventry City in the League One table with a 3-2 win over Gillingham FC.
Gillingham, knowing a win would put them top and making the long trip to Wigan on a Thursday night at the behest of Sky TV, took the lead in the 25th minute when former Coventry City loanee Dominic Samuel raced through and scored with his trusty right foot.
In the 53rd minute, Coventry City one day wonder Rory Donnelly headed home for the Gills second goal.
Wigan, who are still get parachute payments, pulled a 63rd minute goal back when Will Grigg fired home and four minutes later, Wigan, managed by former City loanee Gary Caldwell, were level when a Max Power shot was palmed into his own net by Stuart Nelson.
In stoppage time, Craig Morgan headed home from a corner to give Wigan a 3-2 win.
