Coventry kid Callum Wilson was delighted at making his Football League debut against Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday.
Although played out of postiion by City boss Aidy Boothroyd, Wilson who was given a new contract at the end of the last season, told the CT:
"I was delighted to finally make my league debut on Tuesday, although it would have been better if we had won the game.I first played for the first team in August 2009 when I was substitute in the Carling Cup game against Hartlepool.
I was hoping to get a few more appearances after that but it wasn't to be last season and then I came back in the summer and really enjoyed the pre-season until I dislocated my left shoulder against Hinckley.
It was the second time I have done it and I had a bigger operation this time when they put two screws in to hold it in place, so I am pretty confident that it won't go again.
That's good for me mentally and now I am just trying to get back into things and get back into the squad.
I have been in it three times now and the QPR game was the first time I have been on the bench and I was obviously hoping to get on at some stage.
I have played one game for the Academy since I have been back fit after I asked the gaffer if I could get a game to get my fitness going, and I played in a reserve game against Kettering and had five minutes in a friendly against Forest.
Other than that I have been training extra hard and doing loads of running and stuff.
am a striker by choice but I have been playing on the wing for a few weeks in training and I like the position and I don't want to limit myself to one position. I am only 18 and just happy to play to be honest.
The manager just told me to go out there and express myself and not to hold anything back and run as hard as I can.
I was surprised to get on ahead of the other lads and it was my first time on the bench in the league, so when he called me to get stripped I was very happy but I had no idea that I would be used.
I just tried to do my best. I think I did OK but I could have done a bit better because I slipped a couple of times but it is difficult to get into the game in the last ten minutes.
I wasn't nervous at all. I am a very confident person and I am looking forward to keep working hard at the training ground and try to get on the bench a few more times this season.
I haven't had any feedback from the manager yet but I am sure I will in training and it would be nice to be involved on Saturday and Monday.
But even just to travel with the team is a big thing for me at the minute, especially after having three months out with my injury.
I have been waiting for this for a long time and I am really excited about working hard for the team and trying to do my job."
