Wood Ready To Start Again

Coventry City defender Richard Wood is determined to keep his place in the City team to face Leicester on Saturday.

The centre half played in the 3-1 defeat at Millwall and played and scored for City Reserves on Tuesday afternoon in their 4-4 draw against MK Dons.

Speaking to the CT, Wood said: "I am fighting fit and looking Saturday's big derby game after a good week in training.

"I have had to be patient so far this season but I hope that I took my chance to impress the manager when I played against Millwall in our last game. Unfortunately I didn't last the whole 90 minutes because I cramped up and had to go off but I felt I did well up until that point.

"I was getting problems after about 50 minutes with my calf muscles which was just a result of the fact that it was my first match. It got that bad that I couldn't run at one point so I had to go off.

"I have played reserve games and stuff in training but it is never the same as a first team game, but I am fine now and played in this week's match against MK Dons alongside Ben Turner who is fit again.

"I scored the first goal - a typical one for me with my head from a corner - so I was pleased with that."
