Coventry City defender Richard Wood has said that his play off chasing side have to earn the right to a place in the top six.
To earn a top six place Coventry City have to beat some very good teams currently in the top part of the Championship table.
Cardiff are the first test, quickly followed by Leicester and then West Brom and any points earned from these fixtures will be precious.
The 24 year old Wood said, “We have got a good squad with talent in it and I think the lads are starting to believe it now, Every game we play in at the moment is the biggest of the season but this is a massive game and if we can get three points it will put us right in there and give us a great chance.”
Commenting on the recent signings, Wood said “Carl Baker and Jon Stead have added that bit of quality and there is great competition too because everyone knows they have to perform well to stay in the team, There is a great team spirit here and we have been grinding out 1-0s and been solid and I think that’s all you need to do in this league."
"We have never been out played since I have been here and we have been consistent. Given results elsewhere, Saturday’s draw wasn’t as disappointing as first feared, although Wood admits conceding from a set piece did not go down too well."
“I thought we did all right and in the second-half and we could have gone on and won it if there had been another 10-15 minutes of the game, but I thought Plymouth did well against us and it was a good point in the end, but we are disappointed at conceding from a free-kick and we have to put that out of our minds quickly and look forward. We haven’t been conceding many goals and we have to keep it that way.
When asked about McIndoe's goal, Wood said, "We were all pleased for him and it is about time he got it. The lads have been on at him all season and he has been putting himself down a bit as well and hopefully a few more will come now. He has played in nearly every game and done well, so hopefully now he has got a goal they will come like buses and he will go and get another three, but everyone needs to chip in, myself included, and we just need goals from everywhere.
Wood is confident that his recent injury worries are now behind him now and is concentrating on regaining the form he had before the injury lay off. “I have healed up a lot quicker than everyone thought,” said Wood, “The physio didn’t expect me to play against Plymouth but I said, ‘I’m fine, let me play,’. I was cramping up in the game but my hip has been fine and there was no reaction."
He spoke of the injury, saying “It happened in training when I hooked a ball down the line and I got a sharp pain in my bum and it is apparently a deep muscle in my hip that was torn. It was frustrating for me because we were on such a good run and I was playing well. I didn’t think I did that well on Saturday because I was getting tired and struggling, but hopefully it won’t take me long to get back to where I was before.”
