This pre-season has been the worst for defeats since 2005.
If you class the abandoned game at Nuneaton Town as a defeat then added to the defeats against AC Chievo Verona, Newport County and Stevenage, the total of four defeats was the worst since 2005 when Coventry City lost five matches.
But as we all know, pre-season is about players getting bedded in and getting their match fitness levels and the only thing that matters is the league.
In 2005, the Sky Blues under Micky Adams, went on to finish eighth in the Championship, their highest finish for the last nine years. With Dennis Wise, pulling strings, Michael Doyle having his best season in a Coventry City shirt doing Wise's running and Don Hutchison scoring along with Gary McSheffrey, Stern John and Dele Adebola, 2005/2006 proved to be an excellent season after a poor pre-season.
There were some good signs in this pre-season and if the City players can work on them in the coming weeks and then be consistent in the league, there is no reason why the Sky Blues cannot have a decent season and prove that pre-season results mean nothing.
