Coventry City highlighted the need for the strikers that Steven Pressley is trying to bring in as the Sky Blues went down to a 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient.
After the furore that was Friday night's FA Cup tie at Arsenal, it was back to the bread and butter of League One football with our third visit of the season to Leyton Orient.
A broken down lorry on the M25 which caused fifteen miles of tailbacks and delays, meant that we got to East London an hour later that we intended.
Steven Pressley was without Leon Clarke, who had what as cited as a heel injury but turned out to be nothing more than Clarke letting the City supporters, Steven Pressley and the City team down, if the City manager’s outburst after the game was anything to go by.
So with no Leon Clarke, Pressley replaced him by giving a debut to City's U17 Welsh international George Thomas.
Now there might have only been a tenth of the support that we had at Arsenal on Friday but those present made plenty of noise and gave the team some great backing early on.
Orient won the first corner of the game which Murphy confidently punched and George Thomas cleared. A second flag kick followed in the tenth minute after Murphy had blocked from the short sleeve and glove wearing Dean Cox and Christie cleared the loose ball.
With young Thomas doing the give it and go, Carl Baker had a shot at Jakupovic in the 12th minute from twenty yards.
Andy Webster was making some great tackles but he joined the list of players being tripped by Orient players who continued without so much as a lecture from a referee in his first season on the Football League list.
Twenty minutes in and the booking of Carl Baker in the 20th minute hardly endeared the Essex based referee to the City support, who were be-moaning Mr Bull for his handling of the game.
Billy Daniels went close two minutes as did Cox at the other end before Dagnall won a 25th minute corner which turned into another.
City had one great passing move which must have involved about twelve passes. Unfortunately, the move ended when Baker's attempt to find Thomas only landed at the feet of an Orient defender.
Like the Arsenal game, the amount of possession City were conceding was worrying. This allowed Dagnall, much to the amusement of the City support, to blaze over and the O's to obtain a 32nd minute corner and throw in.
Murphy caught a Cox header and had to do deal with various bits and pieces before the O's won a 42nd minute corner that was headed well wide.
For the second half, Jordan Clarke went up front and it was a second half that saw the City support mimicking "Handball" shouts from the Orient fans and a great fifth minute block by Murphy to halt Lisbie.
Seven minutes in and Moussa did really well to get past a couple of markers and let fire with a stunning drive that was pushed away for a corner.
In the 55th minute, Orient were awarded a penalty when Chris Dagnall went down, exceedingly easily. Kevin Lisbie took the spot kick but Murphy guessed right and saved, diving to his left, to give him a record of saving the most penalties in a single season by a City keeper.
That gave the O's a throw and when the ball came in, there was Dean Cox to score.
Denzel Slager was thrown on for City who had a Baker free kick saved. The 641 City supporters, who were clearly unhappy about Leicester City using the Ricoh Arena for an U21 game, watched on as Slager had a 71st minute shot in the pouring rain and then Thomas won a corner as did Christie, who won the Man Of The Match votes in our car, ahead of votes for Andy Webster and Carl Baker.
But ten minutes from time, the City defence stood and watched substitute David Mooney, fire low past Joe Murphy and send the Sky Blues, who had sent Adam Barton on, to defeat and their first league away game without scoring this season.
