Coventry City are up to fourth in the Championship after their first victory at Bramall Lane since 2001.
Aidy Boothroyd had Clive Platt pass a fitness test and was able to name the same side for the fourth successive game on a sunny afternoon in Sheffield.
It was a game that saw the Sky Blue Army out in force and there was at least 2,000 City fans including a good number of our Northern based support in the bottom tier of the stand behind the goal.City found their rhythm early against Gary Speed's side with Richard Keogh able to attack at will, backed up by a hard working midfield.
In the ninth minute, Stephen Quinn was allowed to get through and he thumped the bar from twenty yards.Boosted by this let-off, City got back at the home side and in the 23rd minute, it was pandemonium in the away end when Aron Gunnarsson crossed from the right, Clive Platt headed down for GARY MCSHEFFREY to head into the net from close range.
The City players wearing black armbands, kept going with Sammy Clingan making a supeb tackle n the 29th minute to stop the normally lethal against City -Richard Cresswell.
Clingan went up the other end and send a twenty yard first time hit volley not far wide of Simonsen's left hand post.
In the 39th minute, Richard Wood who had a fine game, made one howler and it let in Jamie Ward. With only Westwood to beat, Ward bore down on goal but hesitated and hit a shot which went onto the left hand side of the bar and bounced away, leaving Ward with his head in his hands.
United were booed off at the break but their fans managed a chorus of "Annies Song" at the start of the second half, whilst in the away end, the stewards piled in to try and eject a couple of City supporters.
There were supporters being shoved including myself who had the misfortune to be two rows in front, and I was sent flying by the Premier Sports And Events Steward wearing number 15 on his coat.
Being shoved and falling over caused me to have a seizure a bit later in the half which saw a 61st minute Clingan free kick deflected onto the roof of the net and then Gunnarsson got in a header at the back post only for Ben Turner only to be able to get his knee to the ball and it end up in Simonsen's hands.
Aron Gunnarsson, who had run himself into the ground and when I had come back to consciousness, I was informed that Marlon King was playing his first away game, along with Jordan Clarke who had come on for Gary McSheffrey.
King, who did not see too much of the ball, curled a free kick into the side netting before Keiren Westwood made three good saves in the five minutes of stoppage time to ensure that the Sky Blues march up the table continued.
