Coventry City continued their good start to the pre-season with a 5-0 victory at Brora Rangers in the first game of their Scottish trilogy.
518 miles from Coventry is the village of Brora, the first village in the north of Scotland to get electricity and a drive that took the team an hour and forty minutes after a nine and a half hour journey to their base in Aviemore.
The Scottish Highland League club who did not produce a programme for this game, have one small main stand and a covered terrace on the opposite side at their Dudgeon Park home and it was one that about twenty City supporters made the trek.
Their efforts to get there were soon rewarded when Conor Thomas race forward and was brought down. Referee Ian Birnes awarded a penalty and John Fleck put City ahead.
Both sides were caught offside as City with the Willis and Henderson partnership at the back which had worked so well for the U18's last season. built from the back with Jordan Clarke, who tackled well, able to spray some fine balls around.
City's first corner came in the ninth minute.and was cleared but a second four minutes later, saw Conor Thomas rifle inches wide from twenty yards.
In the 15th minute, it was 2-0 when Jordan Clarke had two efforts blocked but got the ball for a third time and chipped the keeper.
Corner number three for the Sky Blues came in the 19th minute and although it was cleared once more, City soon battled to get the ball back on a bumpy pitch which was not helping to the fast flowing football.
Brora, who were a much better team than Hinckley and more physical, had their first shot of the game came in the 23rd minute when Dale Gillespie blasted over.
In the 28th minute, Maclean tried to pass back to his keeper and John Fleck nipped in to score City's third.
Jordan Willis continued to be a rock in City's defence and set up a move which saw O'Donovan run into the area and he was sent down. Fleck offered the ball to O'Donovan who declined and the signing from Rangers duly scored.
Conor Thomas was the lynch pin in midfield in the first half for City whilst Billy Daniels worked hard to keep Fleck and O'Donovan in search of more goals.
Chris Hussey replaced Arron Phillips at the break and in the 50th minute, Shaun Jeffers limped off as Steven Mackay fired over.
Richie Hart then fired across Burge's goal before City went down the other end and Roy O'Donovan sent a 54th minute twenty yard screamer into the net.
Robbie Taylor in the Brora goal, injured his right knee diving in a vain attempt to get near O'Donovan's shot and was replaced by fifteen year old John Allan.
In the 61st minute, Gary McSheffrey sent a dipping free kick from 25 yards over before Clarke fired over seven minutes later.
Brora's first corner came in the 70th minute in a spell of pressure from the home side and up rose Alex McLeod to hit Burge's right hand post.
New signing Kevin Kilbane came on for Billy Daniels, as Henderson did as he had done all night, winning another header to clear a Brora attack.
There were nine minutes left when Will Roberts beat his man on the right and sent over a peach of a cross for Roy O'Donovan to head over and Roberts had a shot saved by Allan as City got in another good win ahead of tomorrow night's game versus Ross County.
